Q. What is the Duty of Care Legislation?

A. The Duty of Care Act 1991 requires that sanitary waste is managed to a point of disposal. Waste must be removed by a licensed waste carrier, and a full audit trail of documentation must be available at all times. Failure to comply with the legislation may lead to a hefty fine.

Q. Who issues the licenses?

A. The Environment Agency, we are authorised by the Environment Agency to collect waste. We conduct a service which fulfils all the guidelines currently in place in the UK

Q. What happens to the waste once it is collected from my premises?

A. All sanitary waste is incinerated at sites throughout the UK owned and managed by SITA, the leading provider of total waste management solutions for the healthcare industry.

Q. Proprietary tampons and towels state they can be flushed down the toilet, why do we need a sanitary disposal unit?

A. There is no such thing as a soluble towel or tampon. Flushing sanitary items down the toilet pollutes rivers and coastlines and may even result in blocked drains.

Q. Do we need to provide a sanitary disposal unit for our organisation, we only have one female working for us?

A. The Duty of Care Act applies to all commercial organisations even if there is only one female employee working there.

Q. How do we determine the volume of washroom equiptment required?

A. We will advise of your legal requirements and the facilities that we deem to be adequate to suit your business needs, we also ensure that this is reviewed with our customers throughout the duration of the contract to reflect any increases or decreases that may occur in your washroom requirements.

Q. Do we need to enter a contract with Dame Hygiene Services?

A. We ask that you stay with us for just 12 months, after which our service will lend testimony to whether you wish to continue using our services.

A. We first ask you to fill in our quotation form, after which we ascertain your requirements. If you are happy with the price and our terms we will arrange a convenient time to install the washroom equipment usually within five working days.
